the rule of thirds

Yesterday, I saw an interview with an Olympic runner sharing:

“My Olympic coach told me after a particularly challenging workout – where I cannot hit my splits before going to the Rio Olympics – that that was okay…

It was the rule of thirds.

When you’re chasing a DREAM, or doing anything hard, you’re meant to feel good 1/3 of the time, okay 1/3 of the time, and CRAPPY 1/3 of the time.

If the ratio is roughly in that range, then you’re doing fine.

So, today was the crappy day.

And if the ratio is off, like…

You feel too good all the time, or too bad, then you gotta look at if you’re not trying hard enough or fatiguing.”

I LOVE this idea.

Because it takes the pressure to be perfect off your shoulders.

On the day when you feel like nothing is going right… or that you can’t get into the flow… you can still show up knowing it’s just one of your crappy days.

Show up.

Do the work.

And, who knows, tomorrow might be another good day.

This is the same for running a business, writing a campaign, or exercising.

Cheering for you,

P.S. – Your email campaigns should also follow the rule of thirds.

You should always test new ideas and challenge yourself to be more creative. This allows you to push the boundaries and stand out among your competitors.
