As a foodie, I’m always fascinated by the culinary experience in different regions.
The Japanese people’s obsession with seafood. The Chinese people’s fondness for spicy food. The Taiwanese people’s habit of adding sugar to every sauce. The American people’s…
…portion size for soft drinks?
(LOL)
The cooking habit tells you a lot about the place you visit.
What’s the weather like? What kind of produce do they have? What seasons do they see? What kind of flavor matches the local lifestyles?
You can’t expect fresh seafood in the middle of the desert, just like…
…and you can’t expect healthy food in the US.
(huh?!)
This is why I find it ridiculous when agencies offer one-size-fits-all solutions for e-commerce brands.
Selling lingerie is drastically different than selling steak.
(at least… the lingerie doesn’t rot in a few hours under the sun)
Selling luxury furniture is wildly different than selling tea.
(you don’t expect customers to buy a new sofa every month)
This holds true for email marketing, too.
While the “big picture steps” are the same:
Campaigns. Flows. Promo. Deliverability.
The same cornerstones apply to all businesses. Yet…
HOW you write these emails… WHAT KIND of flows… and HOW OFTEN can you run a promotional event differs.
In other words, the detail is different.
So… the next time you’re having a “discovery call” with an email agency…
If they want to quote a service before looking at your account, understanding your goals, and learning (at least a little) about your market…
That’s a big red flag.
To your success,
