“I don’t care what you do, but whatever you do… you better do it well.”
Last weekend, I was watching the latest Chef’s Table: Noodles series.
A lot of things strike home for me, like –
“Less and less people are willing to pay the time cost associated with mastery. I wanted to do something difficult, I found it, and I never looked back.”
“Few people realize what it takes to be really good at making pasta. You have to love it. It’s my favorite thing to make. And 17, 18 years later… I think I kinda get it?”
“It’s not just pasta, it’s religion.”
Same for every industry.
Pasta. Wine. Sports. Marketing.
The willingness to dedicate 10,000 hours of deliberate effort to polishing one skill creates the few masters in the world.
Now…
It’s okay if this path is not for you.
You don’t have to master everything to succeed as a business owner.
(in fact, you cannot master everything)
But you must recognize (and invest) in the right talents—people willing to take the difficult path—to help you.
Otherwise…
Good luck in standing out in the noisy post-AI world.
Cheering for you,
Wuyen
