A conservative influencer was shot dead at a speaking event at Utah Valley University. But this is NOT what I want to talk about today. Because…
I don’t live in America anymore.
I hadn’t even heard of this guy before it hit the news.
(Not to mention, shooting incident isn’t exactly newsworthy anymore in the US. I’d be much more surprised if no shooting happened for over a month.)
But this incident did remind me of something that happened a few years ago.
I just graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.
I was still living in the Bay Area.
One day, a friend of mine (a PhD candidate) was working late at the lab.
He drove home around midnight. It was pitch black, so he parked right in front of his apartment, where the building’s light and CCTV were installed.
He stepped out of the car, swung his bag over his shoulder, and…
SUDDENLY
Someone sneaked up from behind, yanked his bag, and ran.
The problem was…
My friend’s laptop was still in the bag.
As a PhD candidate…
That laptop was his LIFE. Research. Data. Semi-finished dissertation. Everything was in it. So, my friend clenched his bag as he was dragged to the ground.
Then…
*bang-bang-bang*
The screen on the CCTV flashed 3 times.
The robber fired 3 shots at my friend.
The bullet hit his thigh, penetrated the muscle, and completely missed all the important blood vessels.
So, luckily, my friend survived.
BUT WHAT THE FK IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY?
I get it.
Second Amendment.
“We have the right to…”
No, you don’t.
The Second Amendment gives you the right to “own” a gun, but does not give you free will to fire.
The truth is –
Unless you live in the middle of the forest with bears and wolves surrounding your house, no human needs a gun.
Nothing goods come out of a gun.
Not what you want to hear?
Bite me. Why else does anyone need a gun? It’s a weapon designed to kill. So… stop being surprised when someone gets killed.
Man, the world has gone crazy.
(Just like how some women are forced to carry a DEAD BABY in their stomachs, or a brain-dead woman must carry a fetus to birth because the state banned abortion. You’ve got to be kidding me.)
