Last Friday, I was procrastinating by enjoying seeking new business wisdom inside the documentation:
How Master Chef Kyle Connaughton Runs a 3 Michelin Star Restaurant in Wine Country — Mise en Place
At 15 minutes and 17 seconds, Chef Kyle casually spitted out –
“Something to be said about things being infinitely complex within their simplicity. So, the most simple and straightforward a process is…
…the more you need to go deep in defining that nuance.”
The moment I heard this line…
“EUREKA-A-A!!!”
I yelled, charged into the bathroom, stripped naked, and rushed out to declare my new 2025 goal. (okay, that’s an insider joke)
There’s beauty in simplicity.
I’ve tested a lot throughout my marketing career, and I’ve noticed:
~ Fancy, design-heavy emails do not get better results
~ Segmentation can work, but it’s not necessary
(and often introduces a layer of complexity that messes up important nuance)
~ A snapshot moment outperforms a movie plot in email storytelling
The conclusion?
In 2025, I’m doubling down on simplicity:
* Email = A Hook (Story) + Segue + CTA
* Email Strategy = Tell a fun story in every email
* Mastery = Email storytelling
* Goal = To become the top 1% email storyteller in the world
To a new year of story ahead.
Talk soon,
