Marketing is all about perspective.
If you’re a meat lover, you roll your eyes to any “health claim” from Beyond Meat. If you’re a vegan, you don’t care if the cows are drinking from artesian wells and farmed the old cowboy way.
Recently, a friend had a Rashomon experience selling his house.
The case was simple…
The facts were clear…
But –
The seller. The buyer. The realtor. The scrivener. The court. The lawyer.
Everyone had a different story.
It reminded me of the blind men and an elephant.
Imagine you’re trying to sell an elephant.
But your prospects cannot “see” the whole picture.
~ If they touch the leg, they think you’re selling a pillar
~ If they touch the stomach, they think you’re selling a wall
~ If they touch the tail, they think you’re selling a rope
Lesson?
Your prospects are not you.
They don’t see things the same way.
They have no obligation to know, like, or believe ANYTHING you say.
UNTIL
You can walk in their shoes—leading them through their perspective.
A quote I read recently:
“Everyone is on their own trip. Your offer has to serve THEIR journey. You aren’t selling them yours.” – Colin Theriot
In short…
Marketing is not about “convincing” people you have the best offer.
It’s about understanding the context behind your prospects… and leading them to figure out the best solution for them.
(hint: which is coincidently yours)
