Two days ago, I wrote an email sharing my unpopular opinion on branding.
(you can find the article on my site, titled: marketing icing on the cake)
The statement I made:
No one cares about your company “values” unless your quality is good enough (and it’s just as affordable).
The moment I wrote that email…
I knew I was gonna get many pushbacks.
People argue:
– “I’m willing to pay a premium for Made-In-America”
– “I support women’s businesses”
– “I only buy sustainable products”
yadi yada yada
But let’s look at the facts:
~ Japan car sales in the U.S. is skyrocketing while American brand plummets
~ very few women watch the WNBA
~ Mars Wrigley Confectionery is the largest chocolate company in the world—owning products like Snickers, Milky Way, and M&M—yet they face child labor (it’s actually the S-word… but I don’t want to get my deliverability in trouble) lawsuit in the US
So, yeah, I stand by my advice:
~ SHOW people how good your product is
~ SHOW people how it can solve their problems
~ SHOW people why it’s smart to buy now
Then, sprinkle these values on the cake as the icing.
