how to sell a “leftover” product

I’ve been helping a client empty their seasonal inventory.

The idea is:

They have a seasonal product that comes out every June. As we approach the new season, customers stop buying old inventory.

It makes sense.

Why would I want to buy a 2024 Toyota Camry in 2025?

The problem is –

This marks a red flag on their bottom line.

So… the more units we can move before the cutoff, the better we can liquidate costs. (Ideally, we should move the units earlier… but I only onboarded this client recently🤷)

I admit.

This is an uphill battle.

(even the client admits this)

That’s why I’ve been pulling all my brainpower to create powerful narratives to give customers a “compelling reason” to buy NOW.

~ Basic

“End of Season” = 153 orders

~ 2nd Grade

“Birthday celebration” = 1,118 orders

~ Intermediate

“How this product gets better with aging” = 248 orders

~ Advance

Daily story-driven emails = 1,847 orders

~ Last Dance

“I declare war on [cencored]. Here’s why!” = TBD

So far—excluding the last dance—I’ve pushed 3,390 orders, generating ~92k on a “leftover” product.

Life is good.
