how much credit can an email copywriter take?

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

– William Shakespeare

This is a question I’ve been pondering:

How much credit can an email copywriter take?

Recently, I noticed a lot of email copywriters making absurd claims, like:

“I’ve helped my clients generate over 150MM in sales”

…completely ignoring all the other factors.

(including product production, customer service, product/sales page, branding, ads, social media awareness, etc.)

Here’s my controversial take:

If you’re only a copywriter, you are worth less than you believe.

Because even if we’re only looking at “email marketing” alone, there are:

* communication

* research

* brand voice

* strategy

* story FINDING

* email platform

* list management

* deliverability

* offer creation

* human (buyer) psychology

* expectation management

And more.

Writing is only the tip of the iceberg.

Forget about the “dreams” gurus are selling – sit on a beach, write copy, deliver in a Gdoc, and pull 10k/client/month.

In today’s world, it’s not enough to be JUST a copywriter.

You must expand your skills to become a valuable asset for your clients.

You have to become a copywriter + strategist + list manager…

Like a full-stack email agency.

Even if you’re working by yourself…

You still need to become a One-Person Agency.

(giving credit to my mentor, Chris Orzechowski, for coining this name)

Cheering for you,

P.S. – If you don’t want the overhead of a full agency, but want the results of a full-stack email marketer, reach out at “wy<@>”.
