“HOW CAN THIS BE TRUE?!”

Yesterday, I mentioned that Alex Hormozi’s email marketing strategy is definitely spam… and borderline illegal.

So, I got a few people asking:

“HOW CAN THIS BE TRUE?”

“Isn’t Hormozi THE BIGGEST celebrity in the Internet Marketing world right now? How can his email marketing strategy be illegal?”

First of all…

Since when did big = ethical?

🤣

Secondly –

I’m not trying to take anything away from Hormozi’s glory…

(I don’t believe the 81M figure… but even if he did half that sales in one day… it is still massively impressive)

BUT

Buying an email list…

Sending emails to non-subscribers without their “consent”…

Spamming almost 2 dozen “cold emails” within 48 hours…

This is definitely a big no-no in the eyes of the CAN-SPAM Act.

(and 100% illegal under GDPR)

The reason I’m sharing this is because…

ONE

I’m furiously independent.

I don’t care if I’m commenting on the biggest celebrity.

If I see a questionable practice, I’m going to call it out.

TWO

I see ecommerce owners make this mistake a lot.

They see a competitor (maybe even a dominant player in the industry) following a marketing strategy. And they will automatically assume this is best practice. Despite deep down, they know it feels shady.

Well…

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” – Mark Twain

That’s why my email marketing strategy is so simple… and controversial.

But hey –

I just helped a client break their historical sales figure for a mid-year promotion last week. I drove 97% of their 2024 BFCM revenue (damn, I was so close to killing their historical best month)… in AUGUST… with an inferior offer (30% off vs 50% off)… in a shorter timeframe (17 days vs 24 days)…

…without sending unsolicited emails.

It works.

To your success,
