A follow-up email on the state of AI:
I saw a post bragging about how one AI-written nonfiction “how-to” book can produce 60k buckaroos in book sales, ~20k in sponsorship and licensing, plus 100k in community.
FIRST
This is 100% marketing language.
To get just 1k in book sales will require you to promote the hell out of that book.
Email list. Paid ads. Publicity. Referral partners. Etc
Promoting the book is harder than writing that book.
(unless you’ve earned your spot in the IM little affiliate circle where everyone makes a living by cross-promoting each other’s programs to beginners)
SECOND
At this point of the market sophistication –
You should be able to see through a nonfiction bestseller that teaches you how to become a nonfiction bestseller…
…like looking into the mirror in an elevator.
You see the reflection in a reflection in a reflection.
You see a coach teaching other coaches how to make money by teaching other coaches how to… huh? Where was I?
(Look, I have no problem paying for knowledge. I invest a lot every year. But if you’ve never been in the trench… and all you do is sell how to coach to other coaches, I’m skeptical.)
THIRD
Writing a book is getting 10x easier.
(because of AI, duh)
But writing a book worth reading is getting 10 times harder.
Because fewer and fewer people are putting in the brain work.
Again, I’m not an AI naysayer.
As I shared in yesterday’s email –
I would love to see a realistic version come true, where I can take on 6-10 clients… with the help of an AI protege… without sacrificing quality or my lifestyle.
But I don’t see it happening just yet.
(and I haven’t seen too many AI-written books that are “worthy”)
Talk soon,
