Gen Z should…? – by Squarespace CMO

Two weeks ago, Squarespace’s CMO – Kinjil Mathur – said:

“Gen Z job seekers should be willing to work for free, long hours, ‘willing to do anything.’”

I thought free is a WordPress thingy?

Anthony (Squarespace’s CEO) – you might want to check your CMO’s loyalty.

🤣

Anyhoo…

This is a dangerous mindset.

No, I’m not talking about free work…

(Working for free is a term that lacks too much context. For example, working for no money… but getting a really good mentorship isn’t a bad exchange.)

The problem lies in ‘willing to do anything.’

Are you willing to lie, s.C.A.m, or con people to grow your business?

I’m not.

That’s why I refuse any project I’m not comfortable sharing with my wife.

Every business should have its own “rules” – values that cannot be bent.

For Perennial Pastures Ranch, it’s “regenerate” farming.

For Tony’s Chocolonely, it’s slave-free cacao.

For O’Right, it’s environmentally friendly.

(so, what’s yours?)

These “values” might increase your costs… because doing the right thing is hard… but these rules can help you…

Attract better prospects – people who believe in the same values – into your world, turning them into loyal followers and repeat customers.

Cheering for you,
Wuyen
