FB wants you to talk about DTJ

Social media has become even more annoying.

Scroll down your feed, and you’ll notice:

Politic after politic.

Controversial after controversial.

At first, I thought this was “my fault.” Maybe I read a few too many political posts, and now Zuckerberg has punished me.

BUT

I’m not the only one.

A few of my friends have been testing…

(hey, we are marketer, we test)

And the funny thing is –

You can write a “marketing post” and include a few unrelated political keywords.

Suddenly…

FB is giving you at least a 30% boost in traffic.

And this becomes a self-fueling cycle.

The more you post about political/controversial topics, the more eyeballs you get. More eyeballs lead to more engagement… which signals the algorithm to send you more traffic.

This is what I hate about social media.

It is 100% driven by algorithm.

If Zuckerberg wants you to discuss politics.

You better infuse your marketing messages with politics.

On the other hand…

Email is a lot less algorithm-dependent.

Sure, you have to clear the “spam filter.”

However, deliverability is predictable and manageable.

(unlike SM where you have zero control)

So… if you don’t want to start selling your product using political posts, you better dial in your email marketing program now.
