Email AI by Klaviyo

Earlier this year, Klaviyo launched its new Email AI feature (beta).

Their goal is to fully automate the creation of email copy and creatives, eliminating the need for email agencies.

A lot of marketers are understandably angry.

But I find this whole thing hilarious.

Because the truth is – “Klaviyo is NOT an expert in email marketing.”

Never was, never will be.

Let me explain with an example:

Comcast is one of the biggest cable companies in the US. But would you consider Comcast an expert in TV?

Of course not.

They provide and maintain the infrastructure. That’s all.

(Just like farmers don’t automatically become a Michelin Chef)

The truth is…

I’ve tested out Klaviyo’s AI feature:

* You head over to the drag-and-drop editor (which is buggy as hell)

* You add a section

* Click the sparkling AI icon on your left

* You enter a prompt describing what you want

“Example: Create a flash sale reminder with a deadline before midnight.”

Then…

You get the most tedious and generic email copy in the world.

“Flash Sale Reminder!

Recommended just for you – hurry and take advantage of this limited-time 20% off discount.

Use code: 20OFF

The deadline is midnight today, so shop now.

[Shop Now]”

Seriously?!

You call this AI?!

My 7-year-old nephew can do better than this.

Look…

Even though Nvidia surpasses Microsoft to become the largest public company in the world due to the AI fanatic…

We are still a VERY long way from Skynet dominating the world.

Currently, LLM (like ChatGPT) is simply collecting online garbage to create more garbage for you. Garbage in, garbage out.

Anyhoo…

If you’re interested in Klaviyo’s Email AI feature, try it.

Then – don’t forget to reach out so I can fix the mess for you.

Cheering for you,
Wuyen
