It’s interesting how humans resist change.
Kodak invented the first digital camera in 1975… and shelved it.
Nokia released its first smartphone in 1996—over a decade before Apple and before the term “smartphone” even existed—but hesitated to move forward.
Yahoo was once the top search engine (they even had an opportunity to buy Google for 1M in 1998) but lost traction when they ignored the users’ desire for a better search engine.
I see this a lot in the e-commerce world.
“The industry’s best practice is…”
~ poster ad email
~ Buy Now messages
~ Conversion ad only
~ Product page that looks like Amazon
etc
BUT
“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” – Mark Twain
What if you go against the norm –
~ you tell stories in your emails
~ you focus on relationships over short-term revenue
~ you launch engagement campaigns before retargeting with conversion ads
~ you slap a 5-star review in your headline and make your product page “different”
You’ll be amazed by the result.
