Curry is a great analogy for marketing done right.
No, I’m not talking about the Golden State NBA star…
I’m talking about the rich, gooey sauce on top of a plate of rice.
On the surface –
Curry is one of the simplest dishes. Rice. Sauce. Potatoes. Carrots. A few pieces of beef short ribs. That’s it. However…
As I obsessively tasted every curry restaurant within walking distance…
I realize how few make it well.
Many restaurants make their curry too light. While others come out too heavy. It is astonishing how often restaurants cut corners to serve watery dishes, and how frequently you’ll bite into a piece of beef loaded with tough tendons. Few know how to balance the spice with the sweetness… and even fewer know how to make curry spicy without overpowering the flavor.
Same for marketing.
On the surface –
Marketing is simply acquiring new customers and turning customers into repeat customers. But…
So few do it well.
Most e-commerce obsessed with acquisition while ignoring the retention that gives them the leverage to scale. Some are terrified to try new strategies, while others spread themselves too thin—wasting precious resources. It is surprising how many business owners find a platform that works, only to immediately move on to another when they should be doubling down. Most people overcomplicate their marketing, adding layer upon layer. But few know how to simplify their marketing to make room for growth.
Here’s my challenge for you.
Ask yourself:
“What is ONE thing you can focus on that can give you the leverage to scale?”

Okay? Good.
My answer is Customer Lifetime Value.
Because if you can increase your CLV…
Not only do you have more margin, but you can also spend more to acquire new customers.
And in the world of paid advertising…
If you can only spend $10 to acquire a new customer, when I can spend $20, I’ll eat your lunch, dinner, cookie… and your dog’s biscuit.
Most e-commerces do not have a traffic problem.
They have an earnings problem.
To your success,
