B-F-C-M is boring

Black Friday used to be exciting.

People camping outside of Best Buy starting WEDNESDAY night—lining up around the block. It feels like the 30s outside…

But the heat is through the roof.

Coffee in hand. Coat on body. White mist in mouth.

Everyone is guessing what’s the mysterious grand deal –

TV? PlayStation? iPhone?

The curiosity is killing the cat inside everyone.

FINALLY

The store manager comes out… takes one look at the endless line… and lets out a nervous smile. Then, she reaches out…

Touches the sign.

*pause*

*flip*

STORE OPEN

*BANG*

That’s the starting gunshot in everyone’s mind.

Hundreds of zombies rush into the store, spreading in all directions, hunting for the best target. (and we’re not talking about the slow folks in Walking Dead, we’re looking at the monsters in World War Z)

People get trampled.

People get hurt.

People get crushed.

But the winners bring home… a magnificent new TV at 90% off.

That’s what the Black Friday frenzy is all about.

Today –

It’s boring.

Businesses open their Early-Bird-Pre-Before-Preliminary-Test-BFCM Deal a full month in advance. The deadline extends a week after BFCM.

The offer?

A mere 25% off slap on a lazy banner ad with nothing to be excited about.

No wonder you see only 4 to 5 cars in the lot.

Now, here’s a crazy idea.

What if…

We challenge the status quo –

Make a real once-in-a-year deal.

Give it a short window.

Enforce a no-BS deadline.

Let’s make marketing exciting again.

Cheering for you,
