Recently, I’ve been reliving many old movies.
At 8 p.m., I would mix the baby formula, pop onto the sofa, kick off Netflix, browse around the terrible new UI, and seek something old school to watch while I feed the baby.
(the baby isn’t too happy with my new routine. she’s always barking at me when I hold her milk hostage while I find something entertaining. selfish baby)
Anyhoo…
Yesterday, I landed on Burnt—for the 108th time.
BUT
This time, I noticed something different…
In the past few years, I’ve binge-watched way too many food/chef/restaurant documentaries on YouTube and Netflix.
This has turned me into an “armchair” 3-star Michelin Chef.
So…
As I was watching Bradley Cooper threatening little Tony with a food critique…
I suddenly realized how unreasonable some of the scenes are in this movie.
You cannot go into fine dining—without any prep work—and dish a fantastic meal.
80% of the cooking is done before rush hour.
This reminds me of a lot of armchair email marketers.
They would reach out to an e-commerce owner when they have zero idea of how email marketing works for e-commerce.
INSTEAD
They would find a template strategy (plus a bunch of swipe emails) designed for high ticket coaching… slap them on the ecom owner’s face… demand 20%+ revenue share… and insist that a guru told him –
“I don’t want to do that much work.
I only want to write one promo with 6 to 9 emails for you each month.
But I’m taking all the credit, and you should give me your car, house, and firstborn.”
Get real.
That’s why email marketers get a bad name.
Stop using cookie-cutter swipe emails.
Stop forcing a strategy without knowing the context.
Stop demanding ridiculous fees when you don’t have the expertise.
Put in the rep. Write every day.
AND THEN raise your fee.
Talk soon,
