A few years ago, when I was still living in the San Francisco Bay Area…
I remember there was a night when I travelled to the South Bay to meet up with a few friends. We had a blast.
Good food. Too many laughs.
Then, 10 pm came…
And I found myself in an awkward situation.
Most of my friends lived in the South Bay. Yet –
I lived in Pinole City, at least 2 hours north.
I had 2 options:
1) I could drive at the speed limit… get home past midnight
OR
2) I could drive “a little faster”
So, I hit the highway, ‘accidentally’ stepped on the accelerator a little too hard, and…
Wallah!
I was able to slide into my bed well before midnight.
Now, this isn’t a “special story.”
You might have similar experiences.
But if you think about it…
It takes a lot to “drive fast safely.”
~ You need a car that’s in passable condition
~ You need the driving experience/skill
~ You need to have the energy and focus
etc
The reason I’m bringing this up is…
I see a lot of marketers priding on “how much faster” they are with AI-Augmented systems. How they can write a VSL in 60 minutes… and an advertorial in 45.
Because this is the ONLY argument AI marketers can make.
Since…
AI writing isn’t better.
AI thinking is definitely worse.
The only significant advantage of AI tools (in writing) is speed.
BUT here’s the caveat –
Speed only comes (safely) with experience.
Just like when you’re driving “slightly” over the speed limit.
You might be able to return faster… but you might also never return.
That’s why –
If you pay attention to “who” is making the AI claims… and who’s really getting outstanding results for their client (not burn and churn)…
You’ll notice –
They are always the copywriters who were already top-notch.
They have the experience.
Skill.
Instinct.
To allow them to deliver fast—without sacrificing the quality “too much.”
The quality will still always suffer… even for A-listers.
But the speed “make up” or the sacrifice, because AI allows them to split test a dozen variations in a week.
BUT
If you are not “at that level” yet, the speed can become a curse.
You overlook important nuances.
You lose opportunities to polish your skills.
You don’t even know what you messed up because you are too busy being “fast”… and only fast.
What if…
SUDDENLY
Open AI crashes.
Claude glitches.
Whatever AI writing tool you’re using goes on a strike… because the company isn’t turning a profit (which, btw, most AI companies aren’t really taking home any margin yet).
Now what?
Can you still deliver?
Or are you stuck crying… and panicking in FB groups, looking for help?
To your success,
– WYH
P.S. – I’ve repeated this too many times…
I’m not against AI. I love the concept of potentially serving 6, 10, or 12 premium clients… without burning out… operating as a one-man gang.
I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
High margin. Low management. Huge deliverables. Lots of freedom.
And a moat… without worrying about losing 1 client = 33% of income.
I just don’t think the technology is ready yet.
And I don’t know if it will ever be ready.
What if… there is a limit on how good AI can write? What if… a robot arm can only get as good as it is… and will never become Skynet before 2029?
