advertiser vs. copywriter (part 2)

Last week, I shared the story of a great battle…

Multiple gladiators entered a bloody colosseum—filled with sweat, tears, and broken bones—and only one will return as the glorious king/queen.

*turn off my epic trailer voice*

OK. Multiple marketers are competing in an affiliate promotion.

Two marketers stood out:

* A smart advertiser who leverages the latest AI tools

* A copywriter who is arguably the best email marketer right now

The result is out:

It was ANOTHER crushing victory for the copywriter—generating ~60% of the total sales, gaining more customers than everyone else, and leading the second place by 8-10X.

From this competition…

I pulled 5 tips for your next promotion:

(hey, I heard Black Friday is coming up soon)

1 – You should always be playing at your A-game

The copywriter put together a bonus package that rocked the industry—forcing the advertiser to up his bonus to match the competition’s.

If the advertiser had come out of the gate with the best offer…

He would have gotten more sales.

2 – More email = more sales (always)

The copywriter sent 19 emails in 4 days (6 on the last day alone) and 11 more emails after he removed the original bonus package.

Subscribers were CHEERING for him to send more.

To those who think you’ll “annoy” your subscribers with too many emails…

This is a killer case study to prove otherwise.

Remember that your email is merely a split second in your subscribers’ lives. People watch the news, Netflix, and TV shows every day.

The only thing stopping them from reading your email daily is…

3 – You can’t send too many emails, but you can send too many boring emails

“Nobody reads advertising. People read what interests them; and sometimes it’s an ad (email).” – Howard Luck Gossage

I’ve read every single one of the copywriter’s emails. It’s a masterpiece.

Every email contains something original, entertaining, or insightful.

In short, every email elevates your thinking.

4 – A killer promotion is 50% about the trust… and 40% about the offer

The copy is important.

You can’t be boring. You can’t be lazy. And you can’t be needy.

However, campaign copy is only about 10% of the result.

50% of your sales will come from the long-term relationship you built by telling stories every day, week, and month.

On top of that, 40% of your sales will come from having a home run offer.

(stop it with the mind-dead 15% discount)

5 – You can make a lot of moolah after you “end your sales”

The copywriter admits that he made another FIVE figure in sales after “expiring” the original bonus package.

The key is…

a) Knowing how to reverse anchor your pricing from the irresistible offer

b) continue to send emails even after the deadline

(but no, you never extend the deadline)

Cheering for you,
